Jago Hazzard
Великобритания
Добавлен 5 июн 2019
A channel very loosely focused on London, trains, history and combinations thereof. Videos about the London Underground, steam trains, the history of London, architecture and other things that take my fancy. Sometimes there are jokes. How are you?

Would it kill you if you step on/touch the ‘return-negative’ (4th) rail?
Really interesting.
Yep! Prague is the latest Underground railway to automate whilst the two best metros in the world have always been automatic i.e. the VAL metro in Lille and the Skytrain metro in Vancouver.
Hi Jago. I have a question for you. Was the height of the platforms a difference between the Metropolitan line (and District too) and the other tube lines?
Maybe they can add optical stabilisation. It works on my Nikon DLR…
What bugs me most about that sign is the letterforms: they're so weirdly uneven, and some of them don't even appear to be from the same typeface!
What is a DLR?
I heard it also on a line in Osaka. My ears pricked up and I watched it zoom off, but with the crazy muti-line/company mess that is Japanese railways, I couldn't for the life of me tell you which one. But I just saw another video, and apparently, a line connecting to Narita Airport (Near Tokyo) also does the noise! ruclips.net/video/4s0-8nJh8Fo/видео.html
Thank you for this excellent history of the line. Very well-made indeed!
I'm so sorry to hear about your late wife. but it was clearly her fault for being late.
If you use a digital level, how far is the average oscillation in degrees? (If you do this measurement, please specify whether you're using degrees from flat or degrees from other end for the length)
Brilliant, as usual.
Genuine question why can’t we run classic compatible trains down the ECML into St Pancras and then through the CTRL?
I am sad Mrs Jago can't have her own channel because she is DEAD.
For London, 17 miles gets you almost out of the suburbs? It takes more than 50 for New York.
liverpool should make a london street station
You put this whole video together just so you could make that pun at the end, right?
Edison ended up having little actual input on the power generation, it was British Thomson-Houston that was doing it: Edison sold his shares in General Electric, British Thomson-Houston’s corporate owner, in 1890. they and British Westinghouse fought over the rights to distribute power, developing technology, and manufacturing equipment.
Love love love the 1973 stock. I used to travel the line from Eastcote to Hammersmith (first job), to Ruislip, to Hillingdon and to Sudbury Town (grandma and grandad's house). I remember my excitement when the 1959 stock started to be replaced by the brand new trains. The 1990s upgrade of the 1973 stock was beautifully done in my view although I missed the transverse seats. So many happy memories. I wouldn't have them replaced if they're working well, why waste money when it's in short supply?
The fascade to the main entrance reminds me of a v mini version of one half of the King X main elevation. The slimmer bricks (Roman bricks)are all over the Netherlands - 1 reason why I admire Dutch Architecture
I have fond memories of the station. In one week when picking up my gf at the station I was mistaken for a magician a🪄🎩 and the next day a taxi. I drove a Peugeot 407 SW at the time! My accidental "passenger" went as far as trying to get into the back seat.
It's a common misconception that the phrase 'mind the gap' was used as a meaningless mantra by the Cannibal in the 1972 horror movie DEATH LINE. In fact he said 'mind the doors'.
Nowadays or might be “Don’t kill yourself with work, let ai do it.”
There is still a northen portion but it ends at handsacre junction 20 miles north of Birmingham and dumps trains onto the wcml, which wont help capacity. So you are technically wrong but practically right if that makes sense.
That is exactly the reason for being against HS2 and similar projects ( plowing thru anything in the way ) especially in the country side . The railways that were built 100 years ago is what it is , no going back so lets enjoy that . But why do more of it ?
that was interesting. I've been on the DLR since it opened as I lived on the Isle of Dogs when it was being built...whilst I enjoy the view from the front (and I will elbow and kick old ladies out of the way to get there) on the whole I've always found the DLR screechy, bumpy and uncomfortable to ride on. Something you didn't mention is that on tight curves, trains have fixed axles: whereas cars have diffferentials to allow the wheels to travel at different speeds going round bends, trains don't hence there needs to be some slippage on the rails hence the screeching.
I like Embankment.
My top 10: 1. Kew Gardens - small, quiet, nice scenery, the latter of which I kind of associate with southwest London and the District Line as a whole, imo the most underrated station on the network 2. Acton Town - once again, very quiet, got some scenery, near to my favourite TfL-related place (Acton Depot) 3. Maida Vale - who just cannot love this station?! 4. Canary Wharf - love the massive roundels, the secret film screen, the very modern look to the station 5. Charing Cross - stunning artwork on the platforms, that's what really makes a it top 5 worthy station 6. Gunnersbury, gunnersbury, gunnersbury (those who have heard the song A-Z of the underground will know what I meant) - If we have Acton Town and Kew Gardens in the top 10 then we should include Gunnersbury as well, I'm all for the scenery. 7. Richmond - same with Richmond as well 8. Greenford - just because of that really cool incline lift 9. Chswick Park - what I said about Richmond and Gunnersbury 10. Edgware - really like the station because you can see the bit where they were going to start building the Northern Heights Honourable mentions: North Greenwich London Bridge Upminster
6:07 i know these trains very well
Bogie hunting is in fact dangerous if it is not damped. Yaw dampers are fitted to most heavy rail bogies. The first HSTs when running on transposed rails would hunt so badly you had to hang on in the rear cab. When commissioning the DLR the profile was changes to a worn profile to improve adhesion. The cone angle is a subject of debate and each country seems to have its own. DLR also suffered from short wheelbase bogies which exacerbate bogie hunting.
Anne Barlow, way back in the history of Coronation St
Brilliant, just brilliant!
I'm going on the wobbly DLR the weekend after next so thanks for the warning, I'll know that nothing is wrong.
There are plenty of surviving manhole covers in London with the names of the long gone companies still on them. For example there are several "METESCO" covers in the Paddington area. Their electricity was at 33 and a third Hz (like UERL) or 60Hz.
Hard to imagine that such a slogan would omit the apostrophe, had it really come from the early 20th century. I would have thought their grammar was much better back then. P.S. Thanks for the random curiosity video. 🙏🏻
I think the apostrophe free versions may be modern 'reproductions' but there likely is a period origin.
"Classic-yarn-us" sounds like an Asterix name for a roman known for tall tales
"this felt a little... for want of a better word... cute". That killed me :D
Naughty head f@#k time..... In the dead of night, replace all the "Clock House" signage with "Wood House" signage..... Muwahahahaaa

I first saw that in New Zealand.
You'll be pleased to know my yearly jaunt went off without a hitch, complete with a surprise stint on the Metropolitan. Because the Jubilee wasn't running because of a suspected fire near Willesden Green. You didn't kill your wife, but you didn't say anything about not starting the fire...
00:20: "you can't stand in the way of progress". Better would be here: "you cannot lie in the way of the underground"
Could be Jago's most shocking video ever. But it's good that he keeps things current 😂
There was (I think still is but resited) a plaque about local electricity on Manor Place in Southwark.
My Grandma was supplied with DC electricity in Wood Green until the early 1950s. She only switched on the electric lamps to light the gas lamp. She claimed that the gas light also gave heat and, thus, saved coal which was in short supply just after the war. Finchley Telephone Exchange and two local printers had a DC supply for the motors on certain equipment until 1953. I was an apprentice and helped in the changing of the DC motors to AC ones.
Thanks
And thank you!
Great upload thanks................Amazing how London gets everything while we in the North get Thomas the Crank Engine.................🚂🚂🚂
Refreshingly different. It takes me back to the days of the High Street having shops for the Electricity Board and the Gas Board, selling appliances and good advice (ish).
Reminds me of ‘Hundreds use our service - They don’t know any better!’ And ‘The first time I took Phensic, I got this awful headache’
